What We Do
La Salle provides accomodation in nine furnished suites for women and children
fleeing situations of abuse. Bordering Edmonton's downtown, the residence
contains a common space, a secure playground area for kids, and close access
to several bus routes.
Clients are referred to the La Salle through
Win House, Lurana Shelter and other front line crisis centers.
Residents pay rent from their social assistance
cheques. Utilities are paid by the residence. A house mother lives on site to assist the families. A social worker and child care worker are also on staff.
Women have access to group and individual counselling
as do their children. Staff is developing relationships with other
safe houses so larger group meetings can be held, exposing residents
to a wider support network and offering them the potential to make
new friendships.
To ensure La Salle continues to be a safe place
to live, there are house rules which all residents must observe.
No alcohol or drugs. No overnight male guests. A nutritious diet
for their children. A clean home.
